About

Brian has 25 years field experience in the Heavy Vehicle / Commercial and Plant Mechanical Engineering industry, before moving into a Marine Engineering Training and Teaching role in 2004.  During this period, he has worked within the private and FE training sectors where he has worked closely with Richard for 14 years and Owen for 6 years.

During this period, he has used his field experience to develop and teach customised Marine Engineering programs for Babcock Flagship Ltd, and customised Marine Engineering Apprenticeship programs for Caterpillar, Honda and Volvo Penta UK.  Currently he is the lead Marine Engineering Lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College, delivering Marine Engineering Apprenticeship program, whilst working closely with local marine employers to ensure that their apprentices and staff receive the correct training.

He has introduced the Scottish Qualification Authority L3 & L2 Diploma in Maritime Studies into the college’s full-time study program. This enables students to develop their practical and academic skills prior to following a career path into the Maritime Industry via the Cadetship program or the Marine Industry as an Electrical or Engineering Apprentice.

Brian has worked closely with employers and the Awarding Bodies to develop the best training to meet the skills required for the marine industry.  He is an RYA Diesel Engine Instructor, taught the MCA Approved Engine Certificate 1 (AEC1) course, and has delivered bespoke Outboard Engines and Hydraulics courses to meet individual employers’ skill / training requirements.  He also holds a BA degree in Post Compulsory Education, is a qualified Assessor / IQA and hold a HNC in Heavy Wheeled/Track/Plant Technology.
