Micro Business of the Year - Maritine Solent Awards 2026 - Finalist
In 2026, British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA) was proud to be named a finalist for Maritime Micro Business of the Year at the Maritime Solent Awards. The category recognises exceptional micro businesses within the regional maritime sector, with consideration given to business performance, growth, innovation, sector impact, people and future ambition.
The recognition reflects BMTA’s continued development since its establishment in 2023 and its growing contribution to maritime skills across the Solent. As a specialist independent training and assessment provider, BMTA has continued to expand its offer, including Marine Electrician and Marine Welding & Fabrication Skills Bootcamps, bespoke employer training, assessment and technical consultancy.
For BMTA, reaching the finals alongside XB44 Ltd and Archipelago Yachts is recognition of what a small, specialist team can achieve through close collaboration with employers, industry partners and learners. The business has remained focused on developing practical, accessible and industry-relevant training that responds to real workforce needs.
The finalist position is another important milestone in BMTA’s growth and provides an opportunity to celebrate the team, partners and organisations who have supported the business as it continues to develop its contribution to the Solent maritime sector.
The Maritime Solent Awards 2026 ceremony will take place on 22 October 2026 at Hilton Southampton – Utilita Bowl.
Independent Education provider of the year in Dorset - Business UK Awards - 2026
In 2026, British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA) was proud to be named Independent Education Provider of the Year at the Dorset Business Awards. The award recognises BMTA’s development as an independent, specialist education provider and its growing contribution to the skills needs of Dorset’s maritime sector.
Since its establishment, BMTA has focused on delivering practical, industry-led and accessible training and assessment, working closely with employers to ensure programmes reflect real-world skills requirements. Its work includes specialist Marine Electrical and Welding & Fabrication Skills Bootcamps, bespoke employer training, professional examination preparation, independent End Point Assessment and technical consultancy.
The award represents recognition of BMTA’s approach to education: connecting industry expertise with meaningful learning opportunities, supporting both individuals looking to develop their careers and employers seeking to strengthen their workforce.
For BMTA, the recognition is particularly significant as an independent provider operating within Dorset, while increasingly supporting employers and learners across the wider Solent region and nationally. It reflects the organisation’s continued growth and its commitment to making high-quality maritime education and skills development accessible to a wider audience.
Future Skills - Small Business - Maritime Solent Awards 2025 - Winner
In 2025, British Maritime Training & Assessment was proud to be named the winner of the Future Skills – Small Business Award at the Maritime Solent Awards, sponsored by BAE Systems. The award recognises small businesses making a tangible contribution to meeting the future skills needs of the Solent’s maritime sector through staff development, education, upskilling and outreach.
BMTA was recognised for its commitment to developing practical, industry-relevant training that responds directly to the changing needs of maritime employers and the wider workforce. This includes the development and delivery of specialist Marine Electrical and Marine Welding & Fabrication Skills Bootcamps, bespoke employer training, assessment and wider engagement with industry and education.
The award reflects BMTA’s belief that future maritime skills must be developed in partnership with industry, ensuring learners gain relevant practical skills while employers have access to training that supports their current and future workforce requirements.
Being recognised alongside Berthon Boat Company and Griffon Marine, who were also finalists in the category, was a significant achievement for BMTA and a valuable acknowledgement of its growing contribution to skills development across the Solent maritime sector.
For BMTA, the award represents more than an accolade — it reinforces our commitment to developing the skills, people and partnerships that will shape the future of the maritime industry.
Start up of the Year - Maritime Solent Awards 2025 - Finalists
In 2025, British Maritime Training & Assessment was proud to be shortlisted for the Start-Up of the Year award at the Maritime Solent Awards, sponsored by the University of Southampton. BMTA was recognised alongside other emerging maritime businesses, reflecting the progress made since the company began trading in 2023.
The nomination recognised BMTA’s early growth, innovative approach to maritime training and its commitment to addressing skills needs through practical, industry-focused training and assessment. Since its launch, BMTA has developed specialist programmes including Marine Electrician Skills Bootcamps, bespoke employer training and independent assessment services, working closely with industry to respond to workforce requirements.
Although BMTA did not win the category, being shortlisted alongside established and emerging maritime businesses was an important milestone in BMTA’s development and provided recognition of its growing contribution to the maritime sector. The Start-Up of the Year award was ultimately won by Marine Cranes.
